Middle School Education at Our Savior Lutheran School

At Our Savior Lutheran, we guide middle school students in grades 5-8 through a Christ-centered, academically challenging journey that prepares them for high school and beyond. Our curriculum, rooted in Missouri State Standards and taught from a Christian worldview, integrates core subjects like ELA (literature, writing), science, social studies, and religion, along with music, band, art, physical education, economics, and social-emotional learning.

Students benefit from a 1:1 technology program with Chromebooks, where technology supports—rather than replaces—hands-on, collaborative learning. Traditional skills like spelling, vocabulary, and cursive handwriting are emphasized to enhance communication.

Our unique approach includes individualized math instruction, where eighth graders may study pre-Algebra through Geometry, and an emphasis on soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and servant leadership. Public speaking and presentations across subjects build students’ confidence in articulating their ideas.

Hands-on, collaborative learning is central to our program, with in-class projects and enriching field trips. Students engage in servant leadership, partnering with younger peers and serving the church, school, and community through meaningful projects. Music opportunities include band participation with Lutheran High School South, choir, and music appreciation classes.

Our Savior graduates leave as confident, academically prepared, and spiritually grounded individuals. They exceed their peers, are self-advocates, and understand their identity as forgiven children of God, ready to impact the world as active servant leaders.

Outdoor Adventure

OSL fifth and sixth graders participate in a 3-day, 2-night Outdoor Education experience at Camp Wartburg. Students bond as a class while exploring God’s creation through activities like low ropes courses, caving, canoeing, and survival skills.

This immersive program not only builds teamwork and confidence but also strengthens their appreciation for nature and one another. Outdoor Education is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering personal growth, faith, and lasting friendships among our students.

7th and 8th Grade Class Trip

OSL seventh and eighth graders embark on an unforgettable 3-day, 2-night class trip, exploring history, science, and culture through hands-on experiences. Students have the opportunity to fundraise for their adventure, teaching valuable lessons in responsibility and teamwork.

Past trips have included visits to Southern Indiana, Louisville, Kansas City, and Lincoln’s Boyhood Home. Highlights from last year included Union Station, Science City, Truman Presidential Library, and the Frontier Museum. These trips create lasting memories while bringing learning to life in exciting new ways.

We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you into the OSL family. It would be our privilege to partner with you to achieve a successful and rewarding educational experience for you and your child.
